House on the Hill

The Manager and Staff welcome you to the House on the Hill. Located just outside the historic trading port of New Dunnottar on the scenic New England coast, the House on the Hill provides the ideal spot for a vacation, offering an escape from the increasing pace of modern life.

The hotel is built on the site of a 19th Century Coaching Inn, which itself was built out of the ruins of an original 17th Century Mansion House once owned by the Montrose family, one of New Dunnottar's original settler families. Indeed, the ruins of the old house can still be seen today in the hotel grounds.

Newly constructed, the House on the Hill boasts the most modern facilities, including running water and en-suite facilities to all rooms. Electric lighting is provided throughout, as well as telephones, which are located in all the rooms and connected to our modern switchboard.

A regular motor-bus service runs from New Dunnottar to most major destinations, providing easy access to the hotel from all parts of New England and beyond. Just let us know the time of your arrival and we'll be happy to meet you in the village and bring you to the hotel. Visitors with motor cars are also well catered for with a purpose-built motor garage on the site of the old Coaching Inn's stable block, just on the landward side of the causeway. From there, our bellboys will be happy to conduct you and your belongings over to the hotel.

The House on the Hill offers the guest the warmest hospitality and a wide choice of activities. Our splendid restaurant offers excellent food and spectacular views of the sea, while meals can also be taken in your rooms if required. Regular dances and cabaret entertainment are offered in our well proportioned ballroom. For those wishing more active pursuits, the hotel has shooting rights on High Moor, less than a mile north of the hotel, and holds fishing rights on several stretches of the Spreewell river. Guns and fishing tackle can be hired on request. The hotel also has a private beach within easy reach and boat trips for fishing or sightseeing can be arranged on request.

We look forward to seeing you soon at the House on the Hill and we hope you have a pleasant stay.
