House on the Hill

The Manager and Staff welcome you to the House on the Hill. Located just outside the historic trading port of New Dunnottar on the scenic New England coast, the House on the Hill is the ideal place to get away from the hectic pace of modern life, whether it be for a weekend break or a longer vacation.

The hotel was built in 1927 on the site of a 19th Century Coaching Inn, which itself was built out of the ruins of an original 17th Century Mansion House once owned by the Montrose family, one of New Dunnottar's original settler families. Indeed, the ruins of the old house can still be seen today in the hotel grounds.

Loving restored to its former 1920s glory, the House on the Hill makes no concessions when it comes to comfort or convenience. While retaining the appearance and character of a 1920s high-society hotel, the House on the Hill boasts modern facilities, including air-conditioning to all rooms. Each room is also provided, in tasteful period cabinets, with a wide-screen TV and integrated entertainment centre, with a full range of satellite TV channels. Full telephone and internet connectivity is provided, although the original 1920s handsets are retained for authenticity.

New Dunnottar is well connected to the local highways, providing swift access from all parts of New England and beyond, while a regular shuttle bus connects the village with the major cities in the area and the regional airport. Despite this ease of access, the village retains much of its isolated character. The hotel is a short drive from the village and full guest parking is provided, although there is a short walk from the car park to the hotel itself. Naturally our bellboys are available 24/7 to help with your luggage.

The House on the Hill offers a full range of guest facilities. The ballroom and restaurant have been fully restored to their 1920s appearance and offer stunning views over the Atlantic Ocean, while in the basement, a fully equipped gym and health club are provided, complete with sauna and heated swimming pool.

For those looking to venture further afield, New Dunnottar and its surroundings offer a wide range of activities. To the south of the hotel are the fine, golden beaches of New Dunnottar, while the village itself has a range of attractions, including the High Moor golf course. To the north are some of the finest cliff-top walks in New England, while the Lathmoor Hills offer fine hiking, riding and mountain biking opportunities.

We look forward to seeing you soon at the House on the Hill and we hope you have a pleasant stay.
